As any reader of the Tortall books knows, the discussion of race, colonialism, and imperialism improves as TP herself grows and improves as a writer. Recently rewatched PT and the end of this episode has been nagging me. At the end, when Hans appears, Fakir admits to Rätsel that he has just tried his hand at writing a story for her, but when Ahiru asks him about it, he looks at Hans and Rätsel and says that it must not have worked.
